Stephanie Ongarello

Hi! I'm Stephanie, the creator of the work you see here at ARTxSO. ARTxSO stands for Art by Stephanie Ongarello. I have been making work under this banner since 2016, but have always created. I am trained as an Art teacher, and most recently as a graphic designer, and have taught at some fantastic schools which have helped me to develop my practice. As you may be able to tell, I LOVE colour. I also love to experiment and am continually trying new things. Custom orders that push me to learn new skills are my favourite, so if you have something in mind that you don't specifically see already, just shoot me an email! There's something so special about creating work together...

In 2019, I have a few goals. One is to expand my business. With that in mind, I would love to hear from you if you would like to stock a few of my products, or even team up to make some magical collaborations. I am also hoping to increase my social media engagement, so SHOW ME YOUR ARTxSO! Send me a pic, tag me on Insta... I love interacting with my customers and get such a kick from seeing where my creations end up.

I will also complete my graphic design diploma at Billy Blue College of Design, so if you have any graphic design needs, check out my 'folio' page here.

Can't wait to hear from you...

About your resin...

  1. There are a lot of different types! I use a different resin for art, jewellery and homewares as they all have different properties. Put in very simple terms, resin is a plastic that comes in two liquid parts, and hardens once the two parts are combined.

  2. I use food-safe resin (FDA approved) for my homewares, however there are a few plates made with resin that hasn’t been FDA approved. This isn’t to say that it is toxic – just that the company hasn’t paid for the testing. Check with me if you’re not sure! Even if your product is food safe, it is recommended that you only use it with warm/cool foods.

  3. All resin will eventually soften under heat; some quicker than others. Don’t be alarmed if this happens! It is best to keep your homewares away from heat, meaning use them with warm/cool foods, but not hot. When not in use, don’t sit them in direct sun.  If they do get soft, just let them cool down on a flat surface and they will be right as rain! Also, you can pop it in the oven for 3 minutes to soften and reshape.

  4. All homewares and jewellery have been lovingly hand crafted and hand sanded. Because they have been sanded, they also need to be polished. I use vegetable oil – and you should too! If you feel that your items are getting a bit dull after a while, just pop some vegetable oil on a paper towel and give them a quick polish. Good as new!

  5. I put a LOT of love into what I do. If there’s something that you’re not happy with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Alternatively, if you LOVE your products, spread the word!
